Reader’s Rides

Ouch!!! Had a cracking ride today, car assisted from Bridgewater. The group was myself (Downhill Champ), Glynn ‘Young at Heart’ Parfrey, Steve ‘How does this technology work’ Kinsela, Toby 2 and Gareth ‘Where’s my Boat’ McHale. The route took us a couple of miles down the main rd until we turned towards Cannington, Combwich and Stogursey, which was a bit lumpier than anticipated. A short burst down the main Minehead road took us to the descent into Watchet, where we made the questionable decision to do more climbing to Drifters café in Blue Anchor. Playing safe I had two cakes – one to get me up the hill out of Blue Anchor, and a slow-burn flapjack for later. (That’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it!!).
Then a long but lovely climb out of Blue Anchor to Fair Cross, Monksilver and Bishops Lydeard. Steve then battled with his tech and took us to Kingston St Mary for a welcome break for a pint and a bag of crisps. Then more up and down to North Petherton, and the A38 back to Bridgewater.
So the rest of you missed out on a cracker of a day that saw dry, quiet roads, no real wind, some sun and blue sky and superb countryside and views.
I even managed to snap the Steam train as it passed by in the distance!

Polden Potter
Good turnout, I counted 17 riders at Congresbury, main group were 15 strong.
Good pace set with everyone arriving at Pawlett together. New member Sam Remington was very strong and it was good to have the “plumber” along for the ride(you know who you are)
Brian Q. was spotted in Wedmore looking very comfortable downing a pint.
Head/side wind counted for me on Axbridge by-pass, but group waited so I had to do it all over again. Cadbury my undoing, again.
Dissapointing numbers signing off at Martins’, thanks Janee for the cake , I did my best!
Toby comeback soon , you are missed!!

After a foggy startr, the mist cleared half way up Burrington, which eased the pain slightly! Over the to via the Hunters Inn (no stopping) to Rocky Mountain for a cuppa. Weather glorious by this point. Four of us then went on a roundabout route to Chilcompton for lunch, then back via Emborough, Litton and the Lakes.
